name of piece
"Stigmata", 1994
The piece consists of a pair of life-size photographs placed one above the other to present a fragmented image that corresponds to the body-space of the viewer. The photographs show, respectively, a pair of hands and lower arms, and a pair of feet and lower legs. These fragments constitute a mysterious hovering figure whose identity is defined by apparatus and gesture, rather than the likeness so often inherent in painted and photographic portraiture.
name of piece
"Held II", 1994
Inside a relatively intimate, self-contained environment are two pairs of leather objects, hanging unobtrusively on the backs of each of the doors, as if ready for use. Moulded and stitched from un-dyed cow hide, these things are of the order of equipment, objects designed for a particular use. Their inside and outside shapes and surfaces offer both a representation of fragments of the body, and a possible interaction with it, offering a two-sided adaptor whose precise purpose remains unclear.
